Was soll ich sagen – All That Remains ist eigentlich schon lange eine meiner Lieblingsbands, das Debüt “Behind Silence and Solitude” 2002 war zwar noch nicht so brillant, “This Darkened Heart” von 2004 ist aber damals sofort meins gewesen.

“The Fall of Ideals” stellt meines Erachtens nach ihren Zenit dar, denn die Scheiben danach waren leider nicht mehr sonderlich fortschrittlich und wurden immer softer. Da ich darüber hinaus vor kurzem im Metal Hammer von ATR-Frontmann Phil Labontes Waffenvernarrtheit erfuhr und auch die neueste Scheibe “A War You Cannot Win” in meinen Augen keinen Meilenstein darstellt, rutscht die Band so allmählich in die Kategorie “War mal geil” ab – und mit WAR können die Jungs bei mir definitiv nicht mehr gewinnen.

Als Empfehlung daher hier noch eine deutsche Metalcore-Band aus Koblenz, die ebenfalls heute von ihrem Namen Six Reasons To Kill her gepasst hätte und deren letztes Album “Architects Of Perfection” (2011) mir ziemlich gut gefällt:

Wie angekündigt hat mir der dicke Sackträger mit der roten Jacke was vorbeigebracht: zwei Päckchen sogar! Das erste werd ich mal unter allen heutigen Teilnehmern verlosen – egal ob Euer Tipp zu Nikolaus am Ende richtig oder falsch ist! Wer hier drunter oder am besten im Kommentarbereich zum 5er-Posting einen Tipp absetzt (dort seht ihr auch den aktuellen Punktestand), kommt automatisch in die Nikolaus-Lostrommel.

Ich hab mal ‘nen Blick ins erste Päckchen geworfen – sowas hier (irgendwas mit “Metal”..) scheint da wohl drin zu stecken:

A Perfect Circle wurde nämlich 1999 als ein Nebenprojekt von Tool-Sänger Maynard James Keenan gegründet. Neben 3 Libras gab es zwei weitere Single-Auskopplungen (Judith und The Hollow) vom Debüt-Album Mer de Noms. Der Titel ist französisch und bedeutet auf Deutsch wortwörtlich „Meer der Namen“, ist rein phonetisch betrachtet allerdings fast deckungsgleich mit „merde noms“ („Scheiß-Namen“) .

Die Zeitschrift Visions setzte Mer de Noms in ihrer Liste der „150 Alben für die Ewigkeit“ 2005 auf Platz 71. Michael Rensen vom Rock Hard verglich das Album mit einem „nächtlichen Strandspaziergang am Rande einer pulsierenden Cyberspace-Metropole“ und hob den „düster-charismatischen“ Gesang von Maynard James Keenan sowie das „Songwriting-Niveau“ insgesamt hervor. Die Bewertung lag bei 8,5 von zehn Punkten.

* Maynard James Keenan, in the A Perfect Circle EPK stated, “It’s about being overlooked.”

* In the liner notes to the single, Keenan said: “Up until the mid twentieth century the mountain gorilla was considered a myth. Oddly enough, a legend not unlike Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. The chance of actually seeing/experiencing this elusive shadow was as likely as finding one’s soulmate. Rare. Precious. Even once discovered they seemed unapproachable. The only way to get close to this magnificent creature was to become empathetic. Abandon all pretense and preconceptions. To bare an open throat. To collapse into the arms of vulnerability. All but extinct, these beings/moments are threatened by the black hearted. The cold and oblivious. The empty eyed profit seekers that overlook these Rare. Precious.”

* Keenan shed some more light on this song in their aMotion DVD, where he explained that this is a song about parasitic-like people seeing something different or special about a person. Instead of nurturing that quality or helping that person grow, the “3 Libras” feed off of the energy in a bad way instead of using it for good.

* On aMotion, Keenan also mentioned that he wrote the song for about 9 or so people in his life that have birthdays around the same time, hence the name “3 Libras.” He titled it so the people with the Libran birthdays could battle it out to figure who he wrote the song about.
